Stephen P. Andrade
Program Manager

Stephen Andrade brings over 25 years of experience in developing and implementing technology-based and other regional economic development initiatives. Steve was a founding member of the management team of the Ben Franklin Technology Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania, where he led the Center's initial efforts in entrepreneurial development and investments in small technology-based firms. He was also one of the founders and directors of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Massachusetts. Steve earned a Bachelor in Architecture with a certificate in Gerontology from Syracuse, and a Master of City and Regional Planning with distinction from Harvard University.

Beverly Bockus, PhD, MBA
Director, Strategy and Planning

Beverly brings over 12 years in strategic planning for both non-profit and for-profit institutions. She has been a business development associate at Genzyme Corporation, a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, founder of Bockus Associates Consulting as well as consulting extensively with Battelle’s Technology Partnership Practice. From 2007 to 2009, Beverly was a member of the Institutional Planning and Research Offices of the University of Minnesota focusing on capital planning initiatives. Beverly brings expertise in the development of core competencies, technology transfer, preliminary intellectual property and market assessment, strategic planning, program and operations based capital planning and the development of decision support documents that link strategy, operations and risks to financial implications. She has also worked as a research scientist for over 15 years as a research faculty member in the Biochemistry Department at Tufts Medical School and a post doctoral fellow at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Beverly has a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Anthony Gillespie
Manager

Mr. Gillespie has more than 19 years of experience working in a variety of technology and business roles strategically applying technology to create value in industry and academia. As manager, he is responsible for the day to day business operations and overall fiscal budget for Battelle’s Technology Partnership Practice. Anthony provides expertise to TPP in the development of core competencies, technology transfer and commercialization, intellectual property, market assessments and new venture development as well as diversified industry experience in the energy and financial services. His extensive technology experience was obtained by working for over ten years as an engineer for the American Electric Power Company and an information technology project manager at PNC Financial Services Group. In his previous role as a project manager in the technology commercialization office at Carnegie Mellon University, Anthony evaluated, marketed and licensed university technology and helped to establish start-up businesses primarily from technology in their engineering and computer science departments. His work at Battelle has been focused on managing technology transfer and commercialization programs and helping clients with technology development, economic development, and minority business development. Anthony earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton (Ohio) and a MBA and a M.S. in Management of Information Systems from Case Western Reserve University.

Martin P. Grueber
Program Manager

Martin Grueber brings over seventeen years of experience in technology-based economic and policy development. Martin's experience includes strategic program development, in-depth industry/cluster studies, core competency assessments, survey research projects, development of innovation databases, and impact analysis efforts. As part of these efforts, Martin has been responsible for establishing numerous cooperative working relationships among business, academic and government agencies. Martin earned his B.S. and M.A. from Michigan State University.

Ryan T. Helwig
Economic Development Analyst

Ryan Helwig’s experience ranges from years spent with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Economic Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. to conducting strategic searches on behalf of an executive recruitment firm. His work has included a particular focus on labor issues, as he worked as an Economist in the Bureau’s Labor Force Statistics branch, conducting research and analysis, as well as preparing and distributing news items and technical articles on the subject. Ryan has an M.A. in Economics from George Washington University and a B.S. in Business-Economics from Miami University.

Walter H. Plosila, Ph.D.
Senior Advisor

Dr. Plosila has extensive experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He is recognized for his role in the development of such nationally recognized programs as industry-led high technology councils and the establishment of business/university partnership programs including the Ben Franklin Partnership Programs. He has spoken on technological innovation and manufacturing modernization throughout the U.S. and abroad. His career has also included work with Fortune 500 and small firms, and in the executive and legislative branches of federal, state, and local government. He has advised nearly all fifty states on aspects of their technology-based economic development programs. Dr. Plosila graduated Magna Cum Laude from Beloit College. He went on to earn an M.A. from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
